JumpCloud Agent Windows Installation Walkthrough

Installation Prerequisites

 

  • MS Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package (x86)
  • MS Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package (x64)

Download Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013


Downloading the Agent

 
  1. Login to JumpCloud as an Administrator user
  2. Click on the Systems menu option on the left side of the screen. If you're adding your first system the Systems screen will show instructions for adding your first system
  3. Click the "+" Button to add a new System
  4. On the resulting "Add System" dialogue window, click the "Windows Install" tab
  5. Click Download JumpCloud to download the JumpCloud agent.  It will be default download to your browser's default 'Downloads' folder, or you can right-click or control-click the button and choose "Save Link As..." from the context menu to specify a location
 
NOTE: This file is not system specific.  As an administrator, the file may be downloaded and be re-used across multiple systems rather than the process of manual download outlined above directly on the JumpCloud Console.  Alternatively, you may also Download the JumpCloud Agent from Command Line.


Installing the Agent


Once you have successfully downloaded JumpCloudInstaller.exe following the Download the Agent section:
 
  1. Open the JumpCloudInstaller.exe to begin the installation.
  2. Click Next in the installation wizard.
  3. Click Install (Location must be %ProgramFiles(x86)%\JumpCloud for 64-bit & %ProgramFiles\JumpCloud for 32-bit).
  4. (Variable) This step will only be introduced in cases where another application is using files necessary for the installation.  To proceed, either navigate to the application and close gracefully and choose "Do not close the applications", or allow the JumpCloud installer to "Automatically close the applications". Click Next.
  5. Click Finish
 

Verifying Installation


After you have successfully installed the agent on the destination Windows system, you will now want to verify installation as well as functionality with JumpCloud.


Programs and Features


Within Windows, the JumpCloud Agent will be displayed within the Programs and Features Control Panel:
  1. Click the Start button
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Programs
  4. Click Programs and Features


JumpCloud v1.0 should be displayed within the programs pane if successfully installed.
 

Windows Service


With the agent installed successfully the JumpCloud Agent operates as a Windows service, and may be reviewed within the Services Manager:
 
  1. Click the Start Button and click Run... (Alternatively, press Windows Key + R)
  2. On the Open field, enter services.msc and click OK


The JumpCloud Agent service should be present, and under the Status column it should be listed as Running.
 

JumpCloud Console


In the same interface that the system was initially added from, we may also confirm that the agent is installed and communicating properly with JumpCloud's servers:
  1. Login to JumpCloud as an Administrator user
  2. Click on the Systems menu option on the left side of the screen.

The system should be displayed with a green checkmark under the Status column, and will display "a few second ago" under Last Contact if actively communicating with the JumpCloud servers.
