(Windows) How does JumpCloud Work With Windows Live Accounts?

The JumpCloud agent, regardless of the OS it's running on, manages local user accounts on the host. If you add an account to JumpCloud where the user name on the account matches the user name in JumpCloud, JumpCloud will "take over" this user account, and allow you to change its password and disable the account from that point forward.

Pre-existing accounts not added to JumpCloud are not affected by JumpCloud in any way. This includes the Administrator account on the system.

To allow JumpCloud to manage an account that was linked to Windows Live, you must first unlink it. To do so:

Windows 7 & Windows 8

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click on User Accounts
  3. Click "Manage changes to my account in PC Settings"
  4. Click "Unlink"
  5. Enter your account credentials. NOTE: For your user name, use your username (not your full name) from JumpCloud. JumpCloud will set your long name after it takes over your account.
  6. Log out, and log back in with your new account credentials.

Windows 10

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click on User Accounts´╗┐
  3. Click on User Accounts again
  4. Click on "Make changes to my account in PC settings"
  5. Click on "Sign in with a local account instead"
  6. Enter your Windows Live Password
  7. Enter your account credentials. NOTE: For your user name, use your username (not your full name) from JumpCloud. JumpCloud will set your long name after it takes over your account.
  8. Click "Sign out and finish"
  9. After being automatically logged out, log back in with your new account credentials.

Now your user account can be fully managed by JumpCloud.
